Energy Crisis

Tsunamis, higher temperatures, melting glaciers, landslides, pollution and now the energy crisis. We have been increasingly experiencing the impact of plundering of natural resources. On the one hand, we celebrate development, innovation, advancement, and on the other hand, we fail to stop the onslaught of our actions in a timely manner.

The gap is arising due to a lack of awareness of our actions. We live in denial and bury our head in the sand like an ostrich. Each one of us breathes the same air and feeds off the same planet, yet we assume that the problems belong to another person, government or country. The law of cause and effect is applicable to all.

The impact of our actions may be visible after a period of time, but we cannot escape this law. Nature is no doubt resilient but not indestructible. Like our health, if we keep abusing our body with the wrong food, thoughts, emotions and actions, after some time our body does signal with pain and disease. By constantly testing our limits, we are pushing the boundaries of the planet to withstand the impact of our actions. Now, playing catch up is getting difficult.

Over the last two decades plus, there has been a higher thrust to use renewable energy and introduce policies for environmental governance. The effort and collaboration desperately need to get accelerated at a far faster pace to reduce the on-going damage or possibly reverse some damage. It is challenging to replace natural resources like coal, fossil fuels and oil.

Innovation is becoming increasingly critical to design sustainable solutions. We need to nurture talent and develop a mindset of awareness, empathy and innovation from a young age. Also, the pandemic has aptly demonstrated the law of interconnectedness and oneness. It is, therefore, our collective responsibility to protect and prevent the energy crisis by managing consumption and enhancing awareness.
