Mahatma Gandhi as an Authentic Leader

The opening scene of the movie ‘Gandhi’ revers Gandhiji as a man without an official title, office, wealth, property, scientific achievement or artistic gift. He was simple and humble, yet he became a spokesman for the consciousness of mankind. I was so inspired and intrigued to learn what facilitated him to become a leader of such influence and impact. I read his book, My Experiments with Truth, the title itself personifies a scientific mindset.

Like Gandhiji, we too can practice ahimsa and live true to our vision by anchoring with our higher self. Our inner voice is the leader within that empowers us to grow to our fullest potential. When we awaken to our inner voice and act in alignment with it, we are able to influence and impact humanity. Trusting and acting in accordance with the higher self is the hallmark of true leadership.

My life took a turn when I decided to honour my instinct to feel happy and at ease with myself. Wondering how to feel free and childlike again, through a series of events, I realized that we all have a leader within, our inner voice. This is the voice of Love that reveals our life path and when we live true to our inner voice, we grow into a true leader of influence and impact.

We are so attuned to obeying our ego, that we totally forget about our inner self. Circumstances constantly push us to be true, however, due to lack of understanding, we resist our truth. Our turbulent emotions act as a veil and prevent us from knowing our inner voice. It is only when do we take a pause and reflect to understand ourselves, do we create space to calm and anchor the emotions. As we shed the ego, we are able to empower the inner voice and live true to ourselves.

Authenticity is inherent to us. It requires courage, vulnerability and commitment to grow into an authentic leader. The day we choose to awaken and live true to our inner self, is the day we are reborn to live a life of purpose and mastery.
