Moving Forward

When I was trekking from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, River Dhud Koshi was flowing rapidly, making bubbling sounds. Refreshing and invigorating, the river kept inspiring me to keep move forward. Similarly in life, the only option is to move forward joyfully. We cannot live in the past, neither can we predict the future. Staying agile like the river helps to manage the course with dexterity as well as enjoy life.

There is so much joy in moving forward and discovering new opportunities and attributes about self. Also, new challenges compel the mind to stay alive and curious. The evolving capacity to keep learning is a gift that is bestowed in abundance to human beings. With every age and stage of life, we have to shift gears, change our perspectives, adapt our thinking and stay versatile. Visually, this promises such a feeling of aliveness. Moving water has the power to harness energy and contribute. On the other hand, staying stuck brings to mind the image of stagnant water that ultimately smells.

To move forward, we have to keep letting go. That’s where we feel challenged because there is comfort in the known. The fear of unknown makes us cling to things, titles, and relationships externally and keep hoping for stability. Many leaders find it challenging to pass the baton forward, particularly in family owned businesses. Planning and empowering new leaders for succession is essential to the sustainability and survival of a business. At International Coach Federation, there is a governance practice to bring in a change of guards every one-two years. Succession in leadership brings freshness in ideas and also, gives an opportunity to other leaders to grow.

External stability is not possible because dynamism is always at play. The only way we can feel stable is by anchoring internally. Anchoring and integrating our emotions is a journey that can be taken consciously. Living consciously helps to unleash our potential, identify opportunities and above all, be happy and excel. The best things about moving forward is that we get to see new vistas, experience new arenas, explore new avenues, and discover new attributes and expressions. What an amazing promise that life offers to us!
